Electrical Engineer – Protection, Controls & Microgrid Systems

About the Opportunity
Our client is a specialized engineering advisory firm supporting hyperscale data centers, behind-the-meter (BTM) generation, microgrids, and advanced power infrastructure projects. The team works directly with major technology companies, developers, and energy investors on cutting-edge power and control systems.
Position Summary
The Electrical Engineer will support microgrid controls, protection systems, automation, and power system studies for large-scale data center and generation projects. This role offers hands-on involvement with control logic, protection schemes, RTAC programming, and client-facing engineering deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design and implementation of microgrid control and automation systems.
- Develop protection and control schemes for BTM generation and grid-interconnected facilities.
- Assist with islanding, resynchronization, load-shedding, and power management strategies.
- Support RTAC programming, controller configuration, and system integration activities.
- Prepare technical reports, functional design specifications, and engineering recommendations.
Qualifications
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred).
- 1–3 years of experience in power systems, controls, utility, generation, EPC, or related environments.
- Experience with protection, controls, or power system software such as SEL, ETAP, ASPEN, PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar tools.
- Understanding of power system protection, fault analysis, controls, and electrical system fundamentals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
- EIT certification or progress toward PE licensure.
- Experience with SEL RTAC or other automation platforms.
- Familiarity with microgrids, inverter-based resources, battery storage, and plant controls.
- Knowledge of IEEE, IEC, NERC, or utility interconnection standards.
- Exposure to relay testing, commissioning, FAT/SAT, or field support activities.
