Role Overview

The PTW / LOTO Electrical Engineer will be responsible for managing and administering the Permit to Work (PTW) and Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) systems during the testing, commissioning, energization, and operational readiness phases of the project.

The successful candidate will ensure safe isolation of electrical systems, establish and maintain isolation boundaries, coordinate with commissioning and construction teams, and verify compliance with project electrical safety requirements. This role requires strong knowledge of electrical systems, commissioning activities, switching operations, and electrical safety procedures within utility-scale renewable energy, power generation, transmission, distribution, or industrial facilities.

Job Description

  • Administer and manage the project PTW and LOTO systems in accordance with project procedures and client requirements.
  • Review, approve, and coordinate electrical isolation requests for construction, testing, commissioning, and maintenance activities.
  • Develop, maintain, and verify isolation plans, LOTO registers, isolation matrices, and switching schedules.
  • Define and verify electrical isolation boundaries for work activities involving MV and LV electrical systems.
  • Coordinate with construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance, and contractor teams to ensure safe execution of work.
  • Verify that all isolation activities are properly documented, implemented, and removed in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Participate in daily coordination meetings related to PTW, LOTO, commissioning, and energization activities.
  • Support commissioning teams during testing, energization, synchronization, and operational readiness activities.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with electrical safety and LOTO requirements.
  • Investigate PTW and LOTO related incidents, non-conformances, and near misses, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Deliver toolbox talks and safety briefings related to electrical isolation, switching operations, and LOTO requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of permits, isolations, switching activities, and associated documentation.
  • Liaise with client representatives, contractors, and project stakeholders regarding PTW and LOTO implementation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Professional engineering registration is an advantage.
  • Electrical safety certifications or LOTO training are preferred.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, commissioning, operations & maintenance, or electrical construction projects.
  • Experience in utility-scale solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), substations, transmission & distribution, power generation, or industrial facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience managing or implementing PTW and LOTO systems.
  • Experience supporting testing and commissioning activities.
  • Familiarity with MV and LV electrical systems, switchgear, transformers, inverters, protection systems, and electrical distribution networks.
  • Experience developing isolation plans, switching procedures, and electrical safety documentation is highly preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of PTW and LOTO principles.
  • Knowledge of electrical isolation boundaries and switching philosophies.
  • Understanding of commissioning, energization, and operational readiness processes.
  • Ability to interpret electrical single-line diagrams, IFC drawings, as-built drawings, and commissioning documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical safety standards and industry best practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and project documentation systems.

Preferred Background

Candidates with commissioning, operations & maintenance (O&M), or electrical commissioning backgrounds will be highly regarded due to their familiarity with electrical isolation boundaries, switching operations, and energization activities.
