Introduction

Join a leading international consulting engineering firm in Cape Town as a Senior Electrical Engineer. We are seeking an experienced and technically driven professional with a strong background in building services, industrial infrastructure, and mission-critical power systems. This is an exciting opportunity to work on complex Data Centre and high-reliability electrical infrastructure projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams on local and international developments.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver electrical engineering designs from concept through detailed design, construction and project close-out.
  • Design and coordinate Medium and Low Voltage electrical power systems for commercial, industrial and mission-critical facilities.
  • Develop resilient electrical infrastructure solutions with a focus on redundancy, operational continuity and system reliability.
  • Perform electrical power system studies including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination and arc flash analysis.
  • Specify and integrate MV systems, transformers, standby generators, UPS systems and switchgear.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams across local and international projects.
  • Liaise directly with clients, contractors and professional teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Produce high-quality technical reports, specifications and engineering documentation.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant IEC, SANS and international electrical standards.
  • Conduct design reviews and maintain high technical and quality standards.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance throughout project delivery.
  • Promote SHEQ principles and contribute to achieving Zero Harm objectives.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide technical input across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Support project planning, programme management and successful delivery within budget and schedule.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while contributing to business development initiatives.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies within the electrical engineering and building services industry.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Education:

  • BSc/BEng or BTech in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Registration with ECSA (Pr.Eng or Pr.Tech Eng) advantageous.
  • Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport.
  • Willingness to travel locally and internationally when required.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years' consulting engineering experience within building services and/or industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Medium and Low Voltage (MV/LV) power distribution systems.
  • Experience with standby generators, UPS systems, transformers, switchgear and synchronisation schemes.
  • Experience performing power system studies including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination and arc flash analysis using eTAP or similar software.
  • Working knowledge of IEC, SANS and BS electrical standards.
  • Data Centre project experience will be highly advantageous.
  • Experience using Autodesk products including Revit and Navisworks advantageous.
  • Understanding of JBCC, FIDIC and NEC contracts.
  • Strong communication, leadership and client engagement skills.
  • Ability to work independently while leading multidisciplinary project teams.
