Introduction

We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Professional Electrical Engineer registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) to support engineering activities related to hazardous locations. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, installation, inspection, maintenance, and technical support of electrical systems in hazardous area environments, ensuring compliance with applicable statutory, safety, and engineering standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and review electrical systems and installations for hazardous locations in accordance with project specifications and statutory requirements.
  • Oversee and support the installation, commissioning, inspection, and maintenance of hazardous area electrical equipment and systems.
  • Conduct technical assessments, risk reviews, and compliance evaluations for hazardous location installations.
  • Provide engineering guidance and technical support to project teams, contractors, and clients.
  • Ensure all engineering activities are executed in accordance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, calculations, inspection reports, and maintenance documentation.
  • Participate in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives related to hazardous area systems.

 

Desired Experience & Qualification

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • BEng or BSc in Electrical Engineering or equivalent recognised qualification.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) with ECSA)
  • A minimum of 5 years’ related experience in the design, installation and/or maintenance of electrical systems in hazardous locations.
  • Sound knowledge of applicable South African regulations, standards, and safety requirements for hazardous area installations.
  • Proven ability to prepare technical designs, specifications, reports, and engineering documentation.
