Power Electronics / Controls Engineer

Elementrailer
Internship
On-site
Company Description

Elementrailer is an innovative motorized electric trailer designed to enhance energy efficiency and distance capabilities.

Role Description
• We’re looking for an Electrical Engineering Intern (Power Electronics / Controls) who lives at the crossroads of hardware and firmware. This on-site internship in Bothell will have you breadboarding power-distribution circuits, writing microcontroller code, tuning motor-drive parameters, and integrating everything so the trailer “talks” to the tow vehicle. You’ll collaborate closely with our mechanical and electrical engineer teammates, own key subsystems end-to-end, and see your work roll out the shop door—literally. This position is unpaid but packed with résumé-grade projects and prime networking across the PNW cleantech and mobility ecosystem.

Qualifications
• The ideal candidate is pursuing or has just completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a closely related field.
• You should already have at least a year of experience with schematic capture, basic PCB layout, embedded C/C++ development, and safe laboratory practices around sub-100-volt DC systems.
• Familiarity with power-electronics components such as MOSFETs, battery-management ICs, and motor inverters will help you hit the ground running, as will any exposure to vehicle communication protocols like CAN or LIN—even if it came from a class project or hobby build.
• Clear written and verbal communication, a methodical approach to troubleshooting, and the self-motivation required in a lean startup environment are critical.
• Experience in the automotive industry would be a strong bonus, but is not strictly required.

Compensation and Benefits
• Because Elementrailer is pre-funding, this internship does not provide monetary compensation. Instead, it offers direct ownership of real hardware and firmware subsystems on a working electric-trailer prototype and broad exposure to the Pacific Northwest cleantech network. Successful interns will be the first candidates considered for a paid or equity-bearing controls role once seed financing closes, and we are happy to provide detailed letters of recommendation or referrals upon completion.

If you’re passionate about bridging hardware and software to create next-generation electrified trailers—and want true ownership of critical engineering work—apply today to join Elementrailer’s team!
