Lexdan Select is assisting a Engineering Consultancy with their search for a Lead Electrical Engineer, Based in Johannesburg.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Lead the planning, design, and delivery of HV power distribution and transmission substations and overhead lines (33kV–765kV)
Manage multiple projects, ensuring engineering deliverables, technical specifications, BOQs, calculations, and design documentation are completed to required standards
Develop and present concept and detailed designs to clients and technical review forums for approval
Coordinate with stakeholders, multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and clients to ensure successful project execution
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, designers, and drafters
Support project execution through design reviews, construction support, FAT/SAT activities, commissioning, and resolution of technical queries
Prepare tender submissions, EOIs, quotations, and contribute to business development and company growth initiatives
Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, client, and industry standards throughout project lifecycles
Desired Experience & Qualification
Key Requirements
BSc/BEng in Electrical Engineering and registration as a Professional Engineer with ECSA
7–10 years’ experience in the design, management, and execution of distribution substations and overhead lines up to 132kV, with mandatory Eskom design experience
Strong knowledge of primary plant equipment design, specification, sizing, and selection for substations
Proven experience developing and approving design documentation, technical specifications, BOQs, and detailed design packages
Proficiency in substation earthing design software such as CDEGS or Autogrid Pro
Experience within consulting, EPC, or Eskom environments; transmission substation and OHL design experience advantageous
