What You will Achieve

As part of our continued growth in the Transmission & Distribution sector, we are seeking a Lead Substation Electrical Engineer. You will support the development of critical infrastructure and contribute the safe, efficient, and resilient design of high-voltage substations that support the nation’s energy transition. Our Power Group provides full-service engineering and design solutions for utility, institutional, and commercial clients across the U.S., with a strong focus on reliability, sustainability, and innovation.

Be part of a collaborative and innovative environment where your ideas and expertise are valued, while working on high-impact, technically demanding substation projects including greenfield EHV substations up to 500kV, brownfield retrofits in congested urban sites, complex bus reconfigurations under live conditions, and integrating advanced SCADA, automation, and communication systems.

You will:
• Lead the design and coordination of high-voltage substation projects (up to 500kV) through all phases from conceptual studies and preliminary design to construction documents and commissioning support.
• Provide technical leadership for substation design activities, ensuring consistency with project scope, schedule, quality expectations, and applicable codes and standards.
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients and contractors, supporting scoping meetings, progress reviews, and field issue resolution.
• Prepare and review engineering reports, design calculations, equipment specifications, and construction packages including protection and control wiring diagrams and panel layouts.
• Support and guide the preparation of project deliverables, including bills of materials, cable schedules, conduit lists, and commissioning documentation.
• Lead interdisciplinary coordination efforts with civil/structural, mechanical, transmission, and telecom teams to ensure integrated and constructible designs.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers, fostering technical growth, quality awareness, and professional development across the team.
• Lead or participate in site walks, condition assessments, construction support, and punch list walkthroughs.

Essential Requirements:
• 10+ years of experience in substation engineering
• Lead-level responsibility for both physical and protection/control design on utility-scale projects
• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
• Proficient in power system analysis software such as ETAP, SKM, ASPEN, CYME or CDEGS.
• Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation

This position has a salary range of $130,000 to $160,000 plus yearly merit bonus depending on years of experience, licensure, skill sets and education.
