Join AoFrio as a Junior Electronics Engineer – FirmwareAre you passionate about firmware and embedded systems? Do you love the moment code you've written brings a piece of hardware to life? If you've got foundational programming skills in C, C++ and Python, enjoy tinkering with microcontrollers, and are ready to learn from an experienced engineering team, AoFrio has the perfect opportunity for you to grow into a firmware engineering career.
The role:As our Junior Electronics Engineer – Firmware, based at our Auckland Head Office, you'll join our physical products engineering team to develop embedded firmware solutions for AoFrio's products.

- Actively creating, logging and updating issues in JIRA.
- Supporting the development and maintenance of design documentation.
- Following established firmware development processes and suggesting improvements as your experience grows.
- Undertaking general maintenance and improvement of systems.
- Applying firmware security best practices as guided by senior engineers.
- Contributing to technical documents and work procedures.
- Organising and prioritising your assigned tasks with regular support and guidance.
- Following established code standards and development guidelines.
- Supporting the identification of opportunities to improve code quality and style.
- Participating in code reviews (PRs) to learn and apply programming language standards.
You will need:

- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronics Engineering or Electrical Engineering or an equivalent relevant tertiary qualification.
- A genuine passion for firmware and embedded systems. You love understanding how code brings hardware to life.
- Foundational programming skills in C and C++, with some exposure to Python.
- Ideally, some hands-on experience working with microcontrollers – personal projects, university work or internships all count.
- Some exposure to real-time operating systems (RTOS).
- A structured, methodical approach to problem-solving, applying guidance as you build confidence and independence.
- Building familiarity with engineering tools such as debuggers, logic analysers and oscilloscopes, under supervision.
- A foundational understanding of embedded systems design, and enthusiasm to grow toward independent contribution.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
