Firmware Engineer Intern

Contribute to advanced firmware powering Neuralink’s next-generation neurotechnology and surgical robotics.

Your Role

Key responsibilities include:
• Developing and optimizing embedded software for robotic surgery applications
• Streamlining codebase by refining or retiring legacy embedded software
• Rigorous testing and validation of software systems to meet safety and reliability standards
• Participating in peer code reviews
• Writing drivers and applications to extend robotics functionality
• Specifying hardware and software choices for future hardware platforms
• Collaborating with a cross-functional team of roboticists, engineers, and medical professionals
• Sharing findings and progress in a collaborative environment

About You

What you'll need:
• Demonstrated success in a science or engineering field through projects, innovations, or problem-solving
• Proven experience in software development, preferably with embedded systems
• Experience with embedded systems and common communication protocols (SPI, UART, I2C)
• Knowledge of advanced protocols such as PCIe, MIPI CSI/DSI, USB, and 802.3
• Proficiency in at least one embedded language: C, C++, or Rust
• Familiarity with embedded toolchains and workflows
• Experience building and bringing-up MCUs or FPGAs
• Experience with embedded stacks for ARM cores and embedded Linux platforms
• Knowledge of embedded Linux kernel configuration, device tree setup, and kernel driver development
• Experience with ARM bootloaders and coding drivers for actuators and sensors
• Experience with high-speed data acquisition and processing
• Foundational understanding of MCU architectures, peripheral integration, electrical engineering, and DSP
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics and datasheets and proficiency with lab equipment
