About the position

HII Mission Technologies is currently seeking an Electrical Test Operations Engineer 1 for our HII Nuclear, Maritime Operations Team at Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, VA. Test Engineers in the Nuclear Maritime Operations group support a wide variety of different functional areas at Newport News Shipyard (NNS). At NNS, HII builds the most advanced ships in the world, nuclear powered Aircraft Carriers and Submarines, and our engineers are integral in that effort. Test Engineers support the development of new technologies, the proper implementation of systems and components, and help ensure safe operation of those systems and components throughout the intended lifespan. As part of the HII Nuclear Maritime Operations group, our engineers have access to a rare and unique professional development program that is intended to prepare our employees for lifelong success with our HII affiliates supporting different Department of Energy sites and contracts around the country. The role involves gathering, maintaining, formatting, compiling, and manipulating technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Engineers will produce engineering documentation, reports, and drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics) and perform detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas. They will also conduct preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in areas such as trajectory adequacy and model dimensional consistency, and make quantitative judgments concerning technical data. Additionally, the role may involve conducting tests and recording data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.

Responsibilities
• Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes.

• Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics).

• Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data.

• Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports.

• May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.

Requirements
• Candidate must be a recent graduate with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or graduating college senior who is in good academic standing and pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.

• Bachelor's of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program is required prior to starting Employment.

• Candidate will also be required to provide a copy of their transcript confirming successful completion of Bachelor's degree prior to start.

• Candidate must have experience utilizing industry-current Engineering design and analytical or modeling software.

• Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a confidential security clearance.

• Candidate must be a U.S. citizen.
