Introduction

Our client, an international MEP and ELV contracting group, has secured a major MEP project in Accra, Ghana and is looking for top talent to join their team in Ghana.

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Electrical Engineer/Package Lead will be the technical and managerial pilot for the entire Electrical Package — power generation, MV/LV distribution, lighting, small power, earthing and lightning protection — plus the Low Current sub-scope (fire alarm, PA, intercom, access control, CCTV).

The client is very focused on cultural fit. Technical credentials get a candidate to the interview, but very certain attributes decide whether they receive an offer. They are looking to hire people who are agile/creative, can think, communicate, take accountability, adapt and respect — not just execute. They are not hiring people to repeat what the last project did. They are hiring people who notice, question, suggest and improve.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Matric
  • Electrical Engineering Degree
  • 10–12+ years in MEP electrical engineering, with strong hands-on experience in LV and MV power distribution, generators, transformers, RMU, AVR.
  • Track record on building projects with significant electrical scope (large-scale standby generation, transformer / RMU, full LV distribution).
  • Low Current familiarity essential — fire alarm, access control, CCTV, PA, intercom integration.
  • AutoCAD-proficient (essential).
  • IEC standards depth essential; familiarity with British / NEC / French standards a plus.
  • Strong technical writer (submittals, RFIs, method statements).
  • Comfortable both leading the team and rolling up sleeves on a tricky energisation.

Universal Requirements:

  • Pre-construction self-sufficiency — the team produces all shop drawings, all material and equipment submittals, all value-engineering, and the BOQs in Accra. The designer, client and end user are all in Accra; there is no hand-off to a remote drafting office.
  • AutoCAD proficiency - they will not bring draftsmen alongside; the engineering team owns the drawings.
  • Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) abroad — for major equipment (generators, transformers, switchgear, VRF/chiller, fire pumps, network active gear), the consultant or owner representative travels to the manufacturer's country to witness factory testing. The PM and / or relevant Package Lead travels with them. Candidates therefore need passports that allow visa eligibility for Schengen, China and India.
  • AI-based ERP commitment — every team member works directly on the Group AI-based ERP
  • Hands-on installation, testing, programming and handover — the same team that designs the shop drawings installs, tests, programmes and hands the system over.
  • Respect for Ghanaian hosts — strict, mandatory, tested at interview.
