Who we are

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing — and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at scale.

Working at Samsara means you’ll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that’s shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, and Equipment Monitoring. As part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.

About the role

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to drive end-to-end hardware development, from initial concept to mass production. In this role, you will:

  • Drive EE Architecture: Conduct thorough feasibility, cost, and design studies—including key component selection, thermals, and sub-system integration.
  • Leverage Customer Insights: Utilize extensive telemetry data and engage directly with customers to design industry-leading products.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner closely with PM, PD, FW, EPM, NPI, and Hardware leadership to make optimized design trade-offs.
  • Engage Global & External Partners: Work alongside our US and Taiwan EE teams, internal labs, supply chain, and JDM resources to achieve product goals.
  • Mentor & Share Knowledge: Act as a technical resource and share engineering expertise across the broader team.

*This is a hybrid role with 3 days per week required in our San Francisco office.

In this role, you will

  • Ship Successful Products: Take ownership of bringing high-quality, high-impact hardware to market.
  • Research Silicon: Stay informed of the latest semiconductor advancements and component technologies from top vendors.
  • Define System Specs: Evaluate feature trade-offs and author system specifications alongside PM and cross-functional teams.
  • Prototype & Iterate: Assemble EVKs, execute board hacks, and leverage quick-turn fabrications to validate concepts and accelerate FW development.
  • Own the Design: Drive concepts from block diagrams through schematic capture and PCB layout, both independently and via JDM resources.
  • Validate & Characterize: Create comprehensive testing plans through PVT to evaluate the full electrical system for functionality, power, and use-cases.
  • Lead Failure Analysis: Drive root-cause analysis for design inefficiencies and field failures to continuously improve product quality.
  • Manage External Partners: Partner with JDM companies, compliance/certification labs, and external consultants to design and manufacture quality products.
  • Embody Cultural Principles: Champion and model core values—Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, and Win as a Team.

Minimum requirements for the role

  • 4+ years shipping high-volume hardware programs alongside ODM and JDM partners.
  • Strong expertise in chipset/SoC selection, power optimization, RF/antennas, batteries, cameras, and PCB design.
  • Experience building low-power, wireless (LTE, BLE, Wi-Fi, GPS), imaging, or embedded AI/ML systems for automotive or industrial environments.
  • Hands-on track record with board bring-up, hardware validation, and troubleshooting (e.g., EMI, ESD, power, de-sense).
  • Proven ability to balance design, manufacturability, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration, independent drive, and strong English communication skills.
  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering (or related field), based in the SF Bay Area, with the ability to travel up to 25%.

An ideal candidate also has

  • Ability to thrive in an environment requiring rapid deployment and customer-driven iteration.
  • Hands-on experience with wireless standards like Wi-Fi, BLE, LTE, 5G, satellite, UWB, and GNSS.
  • Forward-looking mindset to build processes, identify opportunities, and serve as a technical go-to person.
  • Experience with systems engineering best practices and global product certifications (FCC, PTCRB, CE etc.).
