Duties & Responsibilities

  • Compile complete designs and requirements based on approved quotations and site conditions. This includes solar, AC and DC systems as well as medium voltage networks (3.3kV, 11kV and 22 kV). Covering all documentation required such as specifications, drawings, schedules etc required to complete the construction and installation of each project. This includes:
  • Compiling layouts in AutoCAD, including but not limited to:
  • Array layouts
  • Site layouts including sleeve and manholes
  • SLDs - Including circuit breaker and cable sizing, fault level calculations, volt drop calculations. DC, AC (LV and MV)
  • Plantroom layouts / designs
  • Schedules (Excel) such as stringing schedules, cable schedules,
  • MV design calculations / sheets
  • Produce materials lists for primary systems. Working close with the technical director, office manager and warehouse manager to ensure materials etc are procured for projects (more specifically bulk items like DBs, Array structures, bulk cables etc.)
  • High level project management and project planning (weekly) with technical director and MD
  • Direct client communication and relationship management once the sales department has handed over a project. This includes any and all regular updates relating to:Project progress
  • Procurement timelines for equipment and materials (delivery dates, lead times etc)
  • Installation timelines
  • Council / municipal, Eskom and NERSA applications, following up and progress updates
  • Any additional requests / requirements / design changes from the client to be relayed to the sales department for scoping.
  • Provide technical input during sales and quotation phase where required
  • Complete site inspections / audits to integrate into designs + Travel locally to meet clients where required.
  • Working with all departments to further develop, improve and optimise internal processes, procedures and approval mechanisms

Desired Experience & Qualification

Key skills / experience / attributes we are looking for:

  • 5-10 years experience in an electrical design role with construction and installation environment 
  • Electrical design experience (eg volt drop, fault levels, MV and LV network design)
  • Proficient with AutoCAD and Excel (must be able to draw SLDs, layouts etc)
  • Good general understanding of construction and installation projects - including project life cycle and procurement
  • Experience with client facing responsibilities
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written
  • Ability to proactively manage / coordinate multiple projects at any given time at various phases of the project cycle
  • Non-negotiable: Fluent in English and Afrikaans (written and verbal) to ensure effective, professional and clear communication with our primary client base
  • Excellent organisational, documentation, administrative and reporting capabilities
  • Good computer literacy, understanding and experience with working on MS office (word, excel, PowerPoint etc) as well as cloud and web-based systems for project documentation, administration and procurement systems
  • Professional, accountable, proactive, ethical and assertive
  • Flexible to adjust easily to changing internal structure and systems of a developing company

 

Key Qualification / Certifications requirements

  • Minimum Matric – Non-negotiable
  • Electrical engineering qualification (B.Tech or B.Ing) - Completed
  • Must have own reliable vehicle and valid drivers licence – non-negotiable
