General Description:   

 

Routinely monitors unit instrument and electrical equipment with respect to safe and reliable operations. Engineer determines the cause of equipment failures, recommends and implements corrective actions; oversees repairs and modifications Engineer recommends and implements improvements for reduced risk, increased system reliability, and reduced operating and maintenance costs through procedures, processes, and project design at their assigned unit or area. Engineer will also provide assistance to Maintenance and Operations on longer term issues and on issues that are significant unit cost drivers.

 

 

Roles and Responsibilities

                                                            

  • Provides technical support for instrument/electrical equipment operation and maintenance
  • Supports emergency/after-hours work that requires troubleshooting and scope definition on an as-needed basis
  • Supports unit startups for critical equipment after major equipment repairs
  • Identifies turnaround scope and participate in reviews as needed
  • Participates in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) as needed
  • Adhere to the Management of Change (MOC) process for field/shop modifications and operating parameter changes and assures compliance
  • Provides I&E training assistance to unit team as requested
  • Monitors operation of equipment in assigned areas on a routine basis and address emerging issues
  • Identifies causes of unreliability, propose and implement solutions
  • Supports the maintenance and adherence to Technical Practices (STP) and Engineering Procedures for instrumentation and electrical equipment. 
  • Supports the creation, review, and deletion of  I&E Maintenance Procedures
  • Updates and maintains instrument and electrical drawings
  • Performs instrument/electrical design and issue construction packages for implementation of expense and minor capital projects 
  • Provides instrument/electrical design review on the Front-End Loading stages of capital projects

Education, Experience, Certifications Required: 

  • BS in Electrical Engineering
  • Advanced PC skills
  • Research skills (Internet, technical journals, code books, federal registers, etc.)
  • General knowledge of electrical and instrumentation principles
  • Effective organizational and oral and written communications skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and with a team

 


Preferred Education, Experience, Certifications:

  • Working knowledge of instrumentation typical in chemical industry
  • Working knowledge of electrical equipment typical in chemical industry
