Job content 
To manage and deliver small to medium engineering projects while supporting Project Managers on larger, more complex projects through coordination, risk tracking, technical input, and documentation management.

Key Responsibilities 

1. Project Management 
  • Plans, coordinates and manages small to medium engineering projects from initiation through completion, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget, as per the issued purchase order.
  • Development project schedules, budgets and resource plans for small to medium projects.
  • Assist with the coordination of large scale and complex/multidisciplinary projects regarding day-to-day activities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve engineering challenges on small to medium projects that arise during execution, which do not require budget.
  • Report any project challenges that require budget for resolution during project execution to the Project Managers.
  • Report on any risks identified during project tracking and propose mitigation actions.
2.Contract Management 
  • Provide contract management for small to medium scale projects, including preparation of technical documentation.
  • Monitor contractors and consultants in terms of the contract document, applicable contract (i.e. Joint Building Contracts Committee, New Engineering Contract, Professional Service Agreements, etc.) specifications and other legislation requirements.
  • Provide technical input on contract management activities, including the preparation of technical documentation.
  • Review contractor submissions and ensure compliance with technical specification.
  • Manage contract variations and amendments on small to medium projects.
  • Monitor project progress and ensure that payment certificates submitted by contractors or consultants accurately reflect the actual work completed before submitting them for approval.
  • Assist Project Manager with the validation of contractors’ and consultants’ invoices against deliverables, by conducting site visit and confirming work completed. 
3. Engineering and Technical Support 
  • Prepare tender and contract documentation for small to medium projects.
  • Offer engineering input and technical support to cross-functional projects and departments.
  • Assist with the final inspection of new installations, including factory and site acceptance testing, to verify compliance with functional specifications.
  • Coordinate and confirm engineering designs and specification or small to medium projects.
  • Attend design, planning, site, and technical progress meetings with stakeholders.
  • Inspect work and compile quality and defects lists.
4. Reporting and Documentation 
  • Monitor expenditures and provide input for CAPEX budget.
  • Contribute to the development and management of the MTREF budget.
  • Prepare and present reports, detailing the status of expenditure.
  • Manage project budget allocation and ensure that the expenditure is within the allocated budget on small to medium projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of budget and cost estimates during feasibility, conceptual design, and detailed design stages
  • Research material prices for the purpose of optimising organisational benefits.
5. General 
  • Follow and execute procurement process required to completed projects.
  • Assist with the revision and updating of projects plans and budget by reporting on the actual deliverables, expenditures and projections.
Requirements 

1. Minimum qualifications required
A recognised NQF Level 7 qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.

2. Minimum operational experience required
Two (2) years experience in electrical engineering projects.

3. Other
Willingness and ability to work extended hours and travel to project sites.
Driver’s license and own vehicle.

4. Advantages
Professional registration with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa).
