About the position
The 2025 Summer Intern in Substation Physical Engineering is a part-time, remote internship designed for students currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in Electrical Engineering. The intern will support the design of physical layouts and electrical systems for high-voltage substations, working closely with engineers and designers to ensure quality and efficiency in project delivery. This 10-week internship begins in early June 2025 and offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the electric utility industry.
Responsibilities
• Assist engineers and designers in the physical and electrical design of substation upgrade projects
,
• Review and update substation layout drawings including One-Line Diagrams, Electrical Arrangements and Sections, Grounding Plans, Conduit Plans, Lightning Protection Plans, Control Cubicle Arrangements, and Low-Voltage AC/DC Wiring Diagrams

• Perform AC Systems Calculations and Design
,
• Develop Equipment Specification and Selection based on Clients Criteria
,
• Create Bill of Materials based on Design Criteria
Requirements
• Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program studying Electrical Engineering, with an anticipated graduation of August 2025 or later
,
• Ability to work with and understand technical concepts, while also being able to communicate them to non-technical personnel
,
• Basic knowledge of the electric grid
,
• Strong organizational skills
,
• Strong skills and capabilities in Microsoft Office (specifically Word and Excel)
Nice-to-haves
• Knowledge of power systems
