The System Safety Engineer (Control Systems Focus) will support the Government Principal for Safety (PfS) by performing and coordinating safety engineering activities across an engineering team responsible for control systems. This includes conducting hazard analyses, managing system risks, and ensuring compliance with MIL-STD-882E and the NAVSEA System Safety Manual.
The engineer will apply their technical knowledge to evaluate system designs and assess those designs from a safety perspective, identifying potential hazards and recommending appropriate mitigations early in the development lifecycle. They may also leverage their expertise in areas such as circuit design, systems engineering, and software engineering to assist engineering teams in resolving safety-related design issues and implementing effective risk mitigations.
Key Responsibilities Include
• Performing hazard analyses in support of design and development activities
• Supporting risk assessments using MIL-STD-882E and the NAVSEA System Safety Manual
• Coordinating with the PfS to ensure proper documentation and tracking of residual risks
• Supporting the development of system safety documentation
• Evaluating engineering designs for safety compliance and identifying potential safety issues
• Reviewing engineering changes for safety impacts and providing recommendations
• Working with design engineers to implement safety controls and mitigations early in the lifecycle
• Participating in safety working groups, design reviews, and technical meetings
• Ensuring alignment with platform-level and NAVSEA safety review processes
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or another ABET-accredited engineering discipline with demonstrated electrical systems experience
• 2-5 years of experience in systems engineering, design engineering, or safety engineering
• Familiarity with basic hazard analysis techniques and risk management principles
• Ability to interpret technical data packages, system requirements, wiring diagrams, interface specifications, and other similar technical documents
• Active Secret clearance or the ability to obtain one
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 5-10% as required
• Must be a US Citizen
Desired Qualifications
• Experience applying MIL-STD-882E in a DoD or Navy environment
• Understanding of Navy platforms, shipboard electrical systems, or combat systems integration
• Exposure to Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Health (ESOH) processes or documentation
• Familiarity with Navy control systems and/or SCADA systems
• Knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and control system programming concepts
• Basic proficiency in C and/or C++ for evaluating control system logic or embedded software

Compensation at Noblis is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the combination of education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, internal and external equity, location, clearance level, as well as contract-specific affordability, organizational requirements and applicable employment laws. The projected compensation range for this position is based on full time status. For part time or on-call staff, compensation is proportionately adjusted based on hours worked. While monetary compensation is important, it's just one component of Noblis’ total compensation package.
