Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Technology.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in electrical substation design.
• Passed FE exam / Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
• 5 to 15+ years of substation design experience.
• Experience working directly with utility clients.
• Proficiency in 3D modeling software for substation layouts.
• Strong client communication and project leadership skills.
Summary:
Insight Global is partnering with an Engineering Consulting firm in Overland Park to hire a Substation Engineer to support their growing team. This role involves full lifecycle substation design, mentoring junior staff, and collaborating directly with utility clients. While the position offers hybrid flexibility, candidates must reside within commuting distance of the Overland Park office. Occasional travel to client sites and offices may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and support the detailed design of medium to high voltage utility substations.
• Develop one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, SCADA and communication systems, substation physical layouts, and conduit/cable routing.
• Specify and select substation equipment and author detailed equipment specifications.
• Produce cost estimates, project schedules, and technical proposals.
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams.
• Interface with utility clients throughout the project lifecycle
