Staff Electrical Engineer
RuneStaff Electrical Engineer, NPI
The Role:
As our Staff Electrical Engineer, NPI, you'll carry the power electronics, distribution, and energy storage subsystems from concept through production release across every RELIC configuration, and produce the design packages, validation evidence, and engineering transfer each phase depends on. You'll work alongside our mechanical, manufacturing, and reliability engineers, and
set the electrical standard the product line is built to. Travel: up to 10%
Key Responsibilities
New Product Development
Drive the power electronics, distribution, and energy storage subsystems from concept through production release and field support on each product configuration
Define subsystem engineering requirements from the product requirements document, assess technology availability, and complete the preliminary risk assessment at concept
Drive DFM, DFA, serviceability, reliability and compliance efforts in close partnership with internal stakeholders and external manufacturing partners
Govern electrical change management from change request and impact assessment through approval, drawing and bill of materials revision, and effectivity on the line
Plan and complete engineering transfer to manufacturing and operations across drawings, specifications, process inputs, and open issue handover
Electrical Architecture & Subsystem Design
Lead the power electronics and distribution design from the DC tap at the host plant
through conversion, harness and interconnect, and the compute load
Specify protection coordination and device selection across the unit, including short circuit calculation, breaker and fuse sizing, and conductor and busbar ratings
Lead the energy storage subsystem design across cell and pack specification, battery management, thermal runaway safety, and N-1 fault tolerance across parallel BESS units
Integrate the inverter and power conversion equipment across configuration, parameter sets, grid and DC side interfaces, and vendor technical acceptance
Design electrical safety into the product across isolation and disconnect architecture, stored energy hazards, touch safe barriers, labeling, and working clearances
Publish and maintain the released electrical design package across schematics, single line diagrams, wiring and interconnect diagrams, panel layouts, cable schedules, and the calculations behind them
Reliability
Own the electrical design FMEA and hazard analysis from first draft through risk priority number reduction, mitigation closure, and sign off against the released design record
Develop the electrical reliability and compliance test plans with quality and the reliability functions, covering accelerated life, environmental, and margin characterization testing
Partner with the reliability function on test execution and failure analysis, supplying the hardware, test articles, and electrical interpretation each campaign needs
Plan and execute electrical root cause investigations on production and field failures, from fault isolation and measurement through corrective action and design change
Design Transfer & Manufacturing Support
Design, build, and commission the in line and end of line electrical test equipment, including fixtures, load banks, instrumentation, safety interlocks, and operator interfaces
Support prototype and validation builds on the floor, resolve electrical build issues across termination access, routing, and build sequence, and feed findings back into drawings and work instructions
Author the electrical work instructions, field termination procedures, and energizing checklists used by the assembly team and the field service group
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent industry experience)
Experience: 8+ years designing electrical systems in energy storage, power conversion, grid connected equipment, data center power, or similarly demanding production hardware
Demonstrated ownership of an electrical subsystem through a full development lifecycle, from requirements definition and concept through validation and production release
Hands on experience producing and releasing electrical design packages, covering single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and panel layouts
Direct experience with protection coordination and device selection, including short circuit calculation, breaker and fuse sizing, and conductor and busbar ratings
Working knowledge of battery energy storage design across pack architecture, battery management, thermal runaway safety, and parallel string behavior
Hands on experience with harness and interconnect design, grounding and bonding schemes, and connector selection for outdoor environments
Direct experience with electrical commissioning and energization on live equipment, covering factory and site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT) and stored energy safety practice
Comfortable working on the floor alongside assembly technicians and in the field alongside installation crews
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to hold a technical position with senior design engineers and drive cross functional decisions to closure
