Ayar Labs is seeking a Senior Staff Electronic Hardware Design Engineer to help us revolutionize photonic interconnects for high performance computing. The exceptional candidate will be highly motivated and energetic, bringing their experience in hardware design engineering to the electro-optic domain.

This role will be responsible for developing validation and reference PCB designs for novel photonics and laser solutions. The candidate will take ownership over project execution, ensuring project schedule and communication of requirements to cross-functional engineering domains. Lab work is required to perform engineering validation tests.

Prior experience in photonics is not necessary, however the candidate must be ready to learn and grow. Ayar Labs is a process-driven and collaborative design environment; the successful candidate will be organized and communicative.

Essential Functions
• Design printed circuit boards to support electro-optic system development
• Communicate with PCB fabrication vendors to meet build schedules
• Work with multi-disciplinary teams to develop mechanical and electrical requirements
• Perform measurements to characterize electrical and electro-optic circuitry

Basic Qualifications
• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related field plus 8+ years industry experience
• Strong fundamental circuit and EM background
• Strong understanding of PCB design tools (Altium)
• Strong understanding of PCB library management
• Familiarity with lab equipment such as: Oscilloscope, VNA, Signal Analyzer
• Familiarity with circuit simulation tools such as LTspice, PSpice
• Basic programming ability (Python, C)

Preferred Qualifications
• Familiarity with critical high-speed SerDes blocks
• Familiarity with electro-optics / photonics
• Experience in low-noise, low-voltage, high power switching regulator design
• Basic firmware development (bare-metal / RTOS)
• Basic CAD tool experience (Solidworks, Fusion)

Salary range: $150,000 - $203,000
