PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Site Electrical Engineering is responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of all electrical infrastructure across the site. The role focuses on the maintenance, management, and optimisation of medium voltage electrical systems, utilities, and infrastructure while ensuring adherence to statutory requirements and SHEQ standards.

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDED BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Ensure full compliance with OHSA and Regulations in relation to machinery, with a strong focus on electrical infrastructure.
  • Manage and maintain all medium voltage electrical installations, including Solar PV and micro-grid systems.
  • Ensure plant and machinery comply with internal and external engineering standards and specifications.
  • Participate in capital projects and provide technical expertise to support execution and delivery.
  • Oversee site utilities (electricity, gas, and water), including performance monitoring, reporting, and supplier engagement.
  • Drive energy efficiency and ESG-related initiatives across the site.
  • Ensure the successful navigation of all internal and external audits in relation to the supervision and maintenance of machinery.
  • Compile and present technical and operational reports to management and statutory authorities.
  • Lead and develop engineering capability within the organisation through training and mentorship.
Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Government Certificate of Competency or a relevant Engineering Degree
  • Minimum of 5 years’ practical experience in medium voltage switching and reticulation systems.
  • Minimum of 5 years practical experience in electrical protection systems, distribution, and system design, including Micro-grid operations, configuration, and networking.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with Trade Test, Installation or Master Electrician certifications.

 

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

  • Must be fully proficient with medium voltage switching inclusive of all the safety requirements that accompany such switching.
  • Must be proficient in electrical protection systems, distribution, and system design. Including Micro-grid operations, configuration, and networking.
  • Have experience in maintenance of machinery in a heavy industry environment in either a supervisory or managerial capacity. 

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Advanced knowledge of medium voltage electrical systems, switching, reticulation, and protection systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution networks, micro-grids, fibre-optic networking, and network switching systems.
  • Understanding of energy management principles and resource efficiency (electricity, gas, and water). 
  • Knowledge of ETAP or similar electrical system modelling tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and General Machinery Regulations.
  • Understanding of ISO standards (ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001) and compliance requirements.
