Description

WSP India is currently seeking a Principal Engineer – Electrical for USA & Canada Mining Infrastructure Projects. The engineer shall be responsible for engineering design of Electrical equipment in compliance with WSP Engineering and Client Standards. Previous experience in an EPCM environment in the Metal & Mining industry, O & G, Power Plant, and Chemical process plant is an asset.

A Team player and willing to work collaboratively with a motivated and highly successful team in Canada. The position will be for Noida location.



Responsibilities

This role is for a Principal Engineer- Electricalon mining projects. 

  • Electrical Engineering Experience in basic and detail design and engineering experience in developing of electrical layout, electrical equipment sizing, cable sizing, voltage drop calculation, short circuit calculation, earthing calculation, lighting calculation, design basis report, technical specification, datasheets, scope of work, request for the quotations, technical bid analysis, preparation of BOQ, cost estimate, vendor drawing and document review including quality plan etc.

  • Experience in design of EHV/HV, MV and LV distribution system, design of electrical system in hazardous and non-hazardous area as per statutory norms, design of electrical outdoor switchyard and substation etc.

  • Sound knowledge of IEEE, IEC, NEC and CEC and applicable standards.

  • Candidate should have experience in design and engineering consultancy on industrial design projects like metal & mining sector, O & G, Power Plant, chemical, manufacturing, FMCG, etc. 

  • Standard electrical engineering software tools like ETAP, SKM etc. for electrical system modelling including grounding, load flow, short-circuit, and arc-flash analysis Protective relay setting development, calculation, and coordination studies.

  • Reviewing & prepare electrical deliverables like one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, motor control and MV, AC-DC schematics, interconnection drawings, equipment layouts, cable schedules, panel schedules, power, grounding and lightning protection layouts, lighting layouts, fire alarm layouts and riser diagrams, hazardous area classification, heat tracing design and layouts and cathodic protections.

  • Must complete a high-quality self-check of own work with efficiency. Shall follow internal QC processes. 

  • Reporting progress of work assignment to immediate supervisor. Understands the project schedule and budget requirements. 

  • Capable of multi-tasking and managing multiple projects. 

  • Actively participate in the design and provide input to the design team. 

  • Provide regular work status updates, including risks or concerns, to Lead Engineer or project manager in Canada lead offices.

  • Familiar with AutoCAD, Navisworks, and Revit 3D to manage or supervise designers. 

  • Be able to communicate in a multi-disciplinary project team. 

  • Be willing to learn and be polyvalent. 

  • Identify improvements (where possible) to enhance WSP service to clients. Complete accurate timesheets by set deadline.

  • Ensure that Health & Safety is embedded into all work practices in line with company policies. 

  • Support the company’s approach to sustainability.

Desired Skills

  • Strong preference will be given to candidates with US and Canadian project experience 

  • Preference will be given to candidates with minimum 15-20 years of experience in a consulting 

    firm in an EPCM environment in the O & G, Power, Mining & mineral processing industry is an asset.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with an Electrical engineering design experience with Instrumentation & Controls and Telecom knowledge 

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines. 

  • Ability to work well as part of a team or on an individual basis.



Qualifications
  • Minimum 15-20 years of experience in Electrical engineering, which includes minimum 5 year of field experience.

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.  

  • Knowledge and experience with Instrumentation & Controls and Telecom systems. 

  • Strong organizational, technical, and communication skills. 

  • Strong attention to the detail. 

  • Experience with projects in USA and Canada. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, in English.

  • P. Eng qualification would be an added advantage.
