Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer (Electrical Design and Integration) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.
You’ll be joining the Vehicle Integration (VI) organization. The VI organization provides innovative research, technology development and engineering for aircraft advanced design, including mechanical design and mechanisms, thermal systems, environment control systems, secondary power systems, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, fire protection systems and electrical systems. The selected candidate will apply electrical design integration support for cable system schematics and cable design. Candidate will be responsible for electrical cable and harness design and need experience in wire harness and RF cable design, as well as avionics subsystem architectures.
Responsibilities include:
Developing electrical roadmaps, system schematics, wiring diagrams, parts wire list, and notes lists, as part of cable assembly build to print definition utilizing Mentor Capital
They will also work closely with mechanical design integration electrical routers to establish physical design characteristics such as wire length.
Design and analysis of wire harness and RF cable assemblies
Contribution to creation of technical presentations to internal team and/or customer team
Development of cable drawings
Collaborate with other subsystem engineers in order to integrate all systems into required platform
The successful candidate will be a self-starter, organized, independently directed with good problem-solving skills, able to perform effectively despite concurrent work tasks and will possess strong communication, leadership, and team skills.
Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal Electrical Engineer (Electrical Design and Integration)
Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) and 8 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related engineering experience OR a PhD in STEM with 3 years of related engineering experience
Demonstrated experience with wire harness and RF cable design
Fundamental understanding of wire gauge sizing and voltage drop analysis
Understanding of basic data signal types (MIL-STD-1553, RS-422, CAN etc.)
Basic circuit design analysis and electrical system sizing/protection as well as various wire shielding requirements
Experience with military aircraft avionics subsystems
A current active in-scope DoD Secret security clearance or higher, with the ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP)
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
Experience with Mentor Capital application
Prior experience in leading a team of engineers
Proficiency in design tools such as Microsoft Visio, RapidHarness, NX, AutoCAD, CATIA
Prior experience in coordinating with multiple Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) within a dynamic program environment
Experience with suppliers and supplier coordination
