Overview

The Senior Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls Design Engineer will collaborate with our team to lead the designs of Electrical and/or Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) projects for water and wastewater treatment facilities throughout the region. The primary focus of this role will be on design using AutoCAD, Revit, SKM, Bluebeam, and Microsoft software tools to perform engineering work. This position will leverage their knowledge of basic engineering principles to guide the direction of project execution.

Supervisory Responsibilities
• Technical lead or support role in a team of engineers, offering guidance, direction, and support to ensure the successful design of engineering solutions.

Duties/Responsibilities
• Work on engineering designs, prepare reports, develop plans, write specifications, and provide cost estimates and proposals for diverse water and wastewater projects, including permitting and alternative analysis.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including civil, mechanical, structural, instrumentation & controls, and software engineering, etc. to deliver well-designed construction documents.
• Experience preparing SCADA master plans as well as electrical, instrumentation and controls related design documents including one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, power studies, P&IDs, loop wiring diagrams, control system architecture diagrams, specifications, and instrument lists.
• Experience applying the National Electrical Code (NEC) and power system software such as ETAP, EasyPower, or SKM is a plus.
• Take ownership of the electrical and/or instrumentation and controls engineering design process, ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in technologies, tools, and techniques, and integrate them into the department's operations where appropriate.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, vendors, and industry professionals to facilitate successful project delivery and to support business development.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the department, optimizing processes and workflows for increased efficiency and quality.
• Actively engage in industry events and demonstrate a willingness to share expertise through conference presentations as a subject matter expert.

Required Skills/Abilities
• 7+ years of either electrical or instrumentation and controls design experience.
• At least 2 years of experience as task leader or project manager of design projects that involve developing plans and specs, bid and award support, and construction services.
• In-depth knowledge of electrical and instrumentation related engineering principles, practices, and methodologies.
• Strong leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team to achieve departmental goals.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on innovative and practical solutions.
• Proficiency in electrical design software and tools, as well as experience with simulation and analysis tools.
• Solid understanding of industry standards, codes, and regulations related to electrical engineering.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required. Professional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to obtain one within 6 months.
