Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. The CO+I CTO Office’s Energy Technology team is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer - Energy Systems. This individual will be expected to be knowledgeable of energy technology alternatives developing across the energy system to support reliability, resiliency, and sustainability in line with Microsoft’s business objectives and goals. They will be expected to collaborate with partners within Microsoft and external partners.
As a Senior Electrical Engineer on the ET team, this individual will play a key role in developing Microsoft’s industry-leading energy technology innovations. This position seeks an electrical engineer who will design, develop, and drive innovation for power and energy systems and related infrastructure, helping to build the cloud datacenters that power the world’s largest online services.
The successful candidate will be a subject matter expert in the electrical engineering field. The individual will have hands-on electrical design experience in energy systems and flexible energy technologies. They will also understand the role of energy systems in datacenter system design and have a degree of familiarity with deployment of datacenters.

The Senior Electrical Engineer - Energy Systems will be responsible for the following:
Collaborate across global electrical engineering teams to drive innovative approaches in energy technology and energy system design, including electrical design and working to transform requirements to design for implementation.
Lead the integration of energy system flexibility technologies to optimize operational efficiency and support sustainability goals.
Evaluate and validate advanced equipment submissions, ensuring integration of the latest technologies into energy systems and datacenter infrastructure.
Partner with the Microsoft energy commercialization team and local utilities to review site utility and substation requirements, identifying and applying innovative technical solutions to enhance reliability and feasibility.
Collaborate with Microsoft procurement, vendors, manufacturers, and engineering teams to source and implement state-of-the-art electrical solutions.
Support operations teams by delivering expert insights and pioneering electrical system solutions.
Work with partner teams to assess and innovate in the upgrading and retrofitting of electrical infrastructure, driving increased site utilization and efficiency.
Apply deep expertise in energy storage technologies to develop integrated solutions for substations, enhancing flexibility and sustainability.
Continuously innovate and propose practical solutions, fostering a culture of creativity and technological advancement within the team.

Electrical Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
