Job Overview:

A leading designer and manufacturer of laser, night vision, and electro-optic devices is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support new designs in becoming a production reality. As an engineer on the product development support staff, a variety of electrical engineering skillsβ€”specifically in the development of high-technology weapon-mounted, helmet-mounted, and hand-held military productsβ€”will be required to bring projects from concept to production.

Work Environment:

Cubicle with some time spent on the production floor.

Essential Functions:

  • Support electrical design teams in the development of new products.
  • Support new product teams in the development of production test equipment.
  • Apply expertise in electrical/electronic analog and digital circuit design, including power supply and power conversion, front-end sensor circuits, ADC and DAC, microprocessors, microcontrollers, and FPGAs.
  • Utilize a demonstrable background in designing high-reliability analog and digital electronics, including precision instrumentation amplifier frontends and mixed-signal interfaces.
  • Design high-efficiency power conversion circuits for low-power, battery-operated systems.
  • Implement EMI/EMC best design practices.
  • Apply knowledge of PCB layout requirements, packaging tradeoffs, and testing of low-noise, mixed-mode circuitry for electro-optical applications.
  • Design electronic modules, including rigid and flexible PCBAs and related interconnects.
  • Utilize ECAD/CAE software tools in the design and analysis of electrical and electronic modules.
  • Execute design, development, integration, and testing of electrical/electronic, electro-mechanical, and electro-optical components, subsystems, and systems.
  • Design for manufacturing, test, power, size, weight, and DTUPC project requirements.
  • Design for high reliability and harsh MIL-STD environments, including shock/vibration, extreme temperatures, and immersion.
  • Work with PCB designers to create low-noise, high-reliability board designs.
  • Integrate custom and off-the-shelf electrical/electronic modules into product designs and production test equipment.
  • Perform electrical/electronic module and system design and analysis, including circuit analysis, modeling, simulation, and timing analysis.
  • Develop detailed design documentation.
  • Lead and participate in design reviews.
  • Conduct design analysis and testing to prove design meets requirements, including EMC testing.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with laboratory instrumentation and data collection for performance analysis and troubleshooting, including data analysis, calculations, generating graphs/diagrams, and writing reports.
  • Apply post-design and troubleshooting skills with solid hands-on lab experience using oscilloscopes, logic/spectrum analyzers, and other required test equipment.
  • Lead and support root cause and corrective action (RCCA) teams in the resolution of technical issues.
  • Transition new designs and technologies to production.
  • Support sustaining electrical engineering for qualified production designs.
  • Generate and process engineering change orders (ECOs) as required.
  • Utilize experience with SOPs, process control, and standardization of work output.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication, collaboration, time management, organizational, and presentation skills.

Must-Haves (Hard Skills):

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, or a related field.
  • Requires advanced job knowledge and skills.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience developing electrical engineering hardware within the defense, aerospace, or medical product fields.
  • EE-specific software experience in ECAD (Siemens Cadence OrCAD Capture CIS, Allegro) and PSPICE circuit simulation.

Nice-To-Haves (Hard Skills):

  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Tool Suite.
  • Experience in the development of manufacturing work instructions.
  • Knowledge and experience with ISO9001/AS9100.
  • Knowledge and experience with Agile Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) or a similar PLM tool.

Degree/Certification Preferences:

Bachelor's degree in engineering. Preferred discipline: Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial, or Electrical.
