Company Overview

Red 6 is an innovative Augmented Reality (AR) technology startup leading the way in synthetic air combat training. Our primary technology, supporting our ATARS product, enables pilots to simulate the cognitive challenges of flying while accessing realistic, scalable training in dynamic outdoor environments.

PRINCIPAL ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Designing next-gen gaming for fighter pilots. Except the jet is real, the G's are real, and the mission is real.

Red 6 is a startup doing something that's never been done: bringing fully immersive 3D synthetic worlds into real aircraft in real flight. Pilots see the actual sky around them, with realistic adversaries, wingmen, terrain, and tankers layered into their view in real time. It replaces decades-old training methods that depend on costly live aircraft or ground simulators. Warfighters get more realistic, repeatable training at a fraction of the cost, and they show up to the fight better prepared.

First-generation hardware got people’s attention. Check it out for yourself The Official Red 6 Newsroom. Now we need you to take it to the next level. We're not handing you an architecture to maintain. We're asking you to define it, and your decisions shape this product and everything that follows as Red 6 grows.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

  • A technically challenging electrical architecture, from a blank page. You'll lead the creation of next generation real-time hardware for a first-of-its-kind airborne augmented reality system.

  • The full lifecycle. You'll take hardware from requirements through prototype, qualification to MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-810, and manufacturing, then see it fly.

  • As for technical decisions, you get to innovate, run the trade studies, prototype the options, and influence the final design.

  • On the program side You shape proposals, budgets, and schedules alongside systems, optics, software, and flight test teams.

  • The team. You'll mentor engineers and build the standards and best practices for an EE group that's still taking shape.

WHY THIS ROLE IS DIFFERENT

  • You define the product. Your voice carries real weight in what first-generation hardware becomes.

  • Your work matters to warfighters. It directly improves how they prepare for real-world missions.

  • Your hardware flies. It goes into real aircraft, built with startup speed and defense-grade rigor.

  • You're in early on a company poised to grow and be a leader in the industry.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • A BS in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.

  • Roughly 12+ years developing complex electrical systems for aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability applications, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.

  • 5+ years leading electrical architecture for complex airborne or mission-critical systems.

  • Deep expertise in subsystem electrical architecture, mission systems integration, and real-time embedded hardware.

  • Hands-on experience defining electrical interfaces, power architectures, integration strategies, PCBA and flex circuit designs.

  • A track record designing to military environmental and safety standards, specifically MIL-STD-461 (EMI/EMC) and MIL-STD-810 (environments).

  • Experience leading trade studies, architecture reviews, and multidisciplinary teams through tough engineering problems.

  • Comfort in the lab with oscilloscopes, power supplies, and spectrum analyzers.

  • The ability to plan, track, and communicate design work against cost and schedule.

  • Strong communication skills and a leadership style that makes engineers around you better.

  • U.S. citizenship, and the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

IDEAL IF YOU HAVE

  • Hands on military flight hardware development experience, especially taking hardware through qualification and airworthiness and into flight on military aircraft.

  • An MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering.

  • Experience with FPGAs, SoCs, SOMs, GPUs, displays, sensors, and test systems.

  • PCBA design and simulation experience with Altium.

  • High-speed design experience with DDR3/DDR4, PCIe 3.0/4.0, DisplayPort, USB 3.0, Ethernet, VPX, and rugged computing systems.

  • Knowledge of avionics protocols like MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, CAN, or other deterministic architectures.

  • Systems engineering ISO/IEEE 15288 and product development lifecycles experience.

  • Comfortable leading cross functional teams solving hard problems and mentoring staff.

  • Work with a sense of urgency and confidence; and take personal responsibility and commitment for completing tasks on time in the highest quality manner.

    Estimated Base Salary Range:

$170,000 to $250,000 dependent on skills and experience
