Lead Electrical Engineer

A leading engineering and renewable energy environment is seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to drive the design, execution, and delivery of utility-scale and commercial solar projects. This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong professional who thrives in a fast-paced EPC/EPCM environment and is passionate about renewable energy innovation.

Duties:

• Lead electrical engineering activities across solar PV and BESS projects
• Manage project electrical design from feasibility through to commissioning
• Oversee LV/MV design, protection systems, substations, and grid integration
• Review and approve single line diagrams, layouts, cable schedules, and technical documentation
• Coordinate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams, clients, contractors, and utilities
• Ensure compliance with applicable South African and international standards
• Support procurement processes and technical evaluations of electrical equipment
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior engineers
• Participate in FATs, site inspections, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities
• Assist with project planning, risk management, and technical reporting

 
Minimum Requirements:

• BEng / BSc / BTech in Electrical Engineering
• Professional registration advantageous (Pr Eng / Pr Tech)
• 7+ years’ experience in electrical engineering within renewable energy, EPC, or infrastructure projects
• Strong experience in solar PV plant design and grid-connected systems
• Knowledge of substations, MV reticulation, protection schemes, and NRS/SANS standards
• Experience with ETAP, DIgSILENT, AutoCAD, or similar engineering software
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously

 
Advantageous Experience:

• Utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects
• Eskom or municipal grid connection processes
• Renewable energy project commissioning
• Exposure to international engineering standards and projects across Africa
