Distribution Interconnection Engineer
Contract Length: 6 months, possible extension
Location: Hicksville, NY
Work Setup: Training will be in office for 2 weeks, then the assignment will go hybrid with 2x in office per week.
Introduction:
We are seeking a Distribution Interconnection Engineer to support small generator interconnection processes for an electric utility. This hybrid position is ideal for early-career engineers with a background in electrical or mechanical engineering who are detail-oriented, analytical, and excel in project coordination. Candidates must be based in the tristate area and available for limited on-site duties.
Key Responsibilities:
• Review and process Distribution Interconnection applications (0–10 MW, mainly solar).
• Conduct technical screenings in accordance with Small Generator Interconnection Procedures (SGIP).
• Respond to high volumes of inquiries regarding application status, portal issues, and deficiencies.
• Manage and coordinate monthly SGIP reporting (e.g., NYS DPS Inventory).
• Coordinate with interconnection customers and participate in field meetings and witness testing.
• Serve as the main point of contact for SGIP-related customer inquiries.
• Oversee day-to-day operations and administration of existing distributed energy resources.
• Participate in DPS interconnection forums and policy discussions.
• Track and manage project accounting and financials, ensuring compliance with SGIP and utility standards.
• Maintain project budgets in SAP and collaborate with Cost Engineers for forecasts and reporting.
• Review contractor invoices and change orders in collaboration with Cost Analysts.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in a technical field; Electrical Engineering preferred.
• 1–3 years of experience, ideally in a power engineering or electric utility role.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• High attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in Excel for data management and analysis.
• Excellent communication skills for coordination with internal teams and external developers.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in electric utility transmission or distribution.
• Familiarity with SGIP tariff and interconnection processes.
• Background in managing Renewable and Non-Renewable Energy Resource interconnections.
Additional Details:
• Hybrid schedule: Initial 2 weeks of in-office training followed by hybrid work (2 days/week in-office).
• Candidate must be local to the tristate area and available for site visits (approx. 10% of the time).
• Not a field position but requires occasional travel to Long Island and Rockaways.
• Strong leadership skills and customer service mindset are essential.
