• Duties & Responsibilities
• Perform design reviews of power distribution systems – 34.5 kilovolts and below; and conduct constructability and functionality reviews;
• Review load estimation of both bus facility and electric buses charging system for Bus Garages.
• Review design drawings submittals for electrical infrastructure of battery electric vehicles and buses, and DC-To-DC and AC-To-DC charging systems;
• Review load calculations including electrical circuits and equipment sizing;
• Review coordination study, short circuit study and arc flash study;
• Review lighting calculations and photometric design;
• Review design drawings submittals for solar photovoltaic (PV) system and interconnection diagrams;
• Provide electrical engineering support based on WMATA design criteria, specifications and standard design drawings including applicable codes and standards;
• Complete review of electrical submittals and RFIs;
• Attend ZEV project meeting and provide feedback to WMATA engineering teams;
• Develop and update electrical design drawings, specifications, technical reports, standard operation procedures (SOPs), preventive maintenance inspection (PMI) procedures, etc.;
• Provide electrical engineering field support for site surveys, assessments, commissioning, field testing and inspections;
• Conduct technical/market research; and
• Perform other duties as assigned by WMATA's Task Manager.
Background & Experience Required
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field of study is required;
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in electrical design;
• Experience with AutoCAD;
• Minimum two years' experience in scope of work and specification development, and working knowledge of NFPA 70, 70B, 130, and ANSI/NETA MTS-2015;
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certified in either VA, MD, or DC and
• Experience conveying technical information verbally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience related to Battery Electric Bus electrical system and Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment or Charge Management Systems.
• Registered Professional Engineer in either VA, MD, or DC;
• Electrical design related to solar power and charging stations.
