NAIT's Electrical Engineering Technology program is a nationally accredited and internationally recognized program that provides a comprehensive study of electrical principles and practices. The program will provide graduates with the skills to perform entry-level roles in several industry disciplines, including power systems operation and protection, maintenance and commissioning, electrical machines, industrial and commercial design, power electronics, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).

As NAIT continues to grow its student body and lead the way in hands on learning, we are recruiting skilled and passionate individuals to help support current and future industry professionals and become a part of Canada’s leading polytechnic.

The instructional assistant is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and operations of lab/shop spaces and will deliver technical lessons in the lab/shop environment independently, under the guidance of instructors, using existing rubrics and assessment tools provided by instructors, to evaluate students.

Key Responsibilities:

Lab/Shop: 

  • Maintain and calibrate lab/shop equipment 

  • Ensure lab security 

  • Ensure work area is maintained in a safe and clean condition 

  • Liaison with other sections or programs when required  

Inventory and Budget Control: 

  • Maintain consumables and inventory of equipment 

  • Catalogue equipment manuals and technical literature 

Instructional Support: 

  • Independently or in a team, deliver in lab/shop technical activities/lessons 

  • Evaluate students based on existing rubrics and assessment tools, provided by instructors, and provide feedback 

  • Supervise students  

  • Demonstrate lab/shop equipment 

  • Prepare, setup and dismantle lab/shop exercises 

  • Assist or perform lab/shop demonstrations of equipment under the supervision of instructional support 

  • Develop and maintain proper and safe standard operating procedures 

  • Assist instructors in the proper and safe use of equipment

  • Assist instructors in the development of new lab/shop exercises 

Student Support: 

  • Provide tutorial/remedial services to students  

  • Assist students in the development and execution of technical projects in cooperation with other staff members 

  • Ensure students are working in a safe manner 

  • Other duties as assigned 

Skills & Abilities: 

  • Strong Oral & Written communication  

  • Strong Interpersonal skills 

  • Strong time management & Organizational Skills 

  • Initiative and ability to work independently  

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and industry related software tools are essential.

  • Ability to lift 50lbs unassisted 

  • Ability to work flexible hours and assignments 

  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time throughout the day.

  • Knowledge of safety standards, and equipment operations and maintenance in the Electrical Engineering Technology field

  • Bring passion, enthusiasm, and ideas that will positively contribute to the advancement and growth of the Electrical Engineering Technology program

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum requirements are a diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology with 2-5 years of related industry experience

  • Registered member with ASET or APEGA would be an asset

  • Equivalencies may be considered

 

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services (WES), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) or the Comparative Education Services (CES).

Classification - Instructional Assistant II

This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.

Remuneration

Refer to salary range noted on this posting, plus a comprehensive benefits package.

The compensation range for this job posting is : $63,233.30 - $84,338.80
