Summary

The Lincoln Electric Company in Cleveland, OH seeks an Electrical Engineer IV with deep expertise in high‑power power electronics to lead development of DC Fast Charging (DCFC) and bidirectional power conversion systems for electric vehicles. This senior technical role focuses on architecting, designing, and validating bidirectional DC‑DC converters used in next‑generation EV charging platforms including vehicle‑to‑grid (V2G) applications

Key Responsibilities

Power Electronics Design and Architecture

  • Lead the design and development of high‑power DC‑DC and AC‑DC conversion systems, with emphasis on bidirectional power transfer.
  • Architect custom power electronics solutions for EV Charging based on industry‑proven converter topologies.
  • Optimize converter performance for efficiency, thermal performance, EMI/EMC compliance, reliability, and manufacturability.

Bidirectional Power Flow and Industry Standards

  • Ensure product compliance and interoperability with leading EV charging communication and power‑transfer standards.
  • Design system‑level power conversion solutions that support grid‑interactive applications, consistent with emerging V2G demonstrations.
  • Collaborate with software/controls teams to implement bidirectional control algorithms.

Cross‑Functional Product Development

  • Partner with mechanical engineers to ensure converter designs meet thermal, packaging, insulation, and clearance/creepage requirements for high‑voltage EV systems.
  • Support manufacturing engineering to establish robust test procedures for designed products.
  • Provide technical leadership in component selection and design for magnetics, wide‑bandgap semiconductors (SiC/GaN), and HV components.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex field failures with structured root‑cause analysis, leveraging domain expertise in high‑power conversion and system behavior.

Regulatory and Compliance

  • Navigate and interpret EV charging standards, electrical safety requirements, and grid‑interface expectations relevant to bidirectional charging ecosystems, including:
    • Communication standards (ISO 15118 family)
    • Smart‑grid and DER‑interconnection expectations inspired by industry frameworks such as IEEE 1547 (distributed energy resource interconnection)
    • Global certification requirements such as UL2202, UL2231, and UL1741

Required Experience & Education

  • Minimum four-year B.S. electrical engineering degree is required.
  • Minimum 9 years engineering experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Ability to handle a constantly changing set of priorities.
  • Initiative to take ownership of product designs.
  • Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of particular field of specialization to the completion of difficult assignments.
  • Proven technical leadership in the design of high-power, high-voltage conversion systems.
  • Experience with EV powertrain, DCFC systems, or grid-interacting converters is highly preferred.
