About the position

Responsibilities
• Performs engineering work on PPL's substations, ranging from 12kV to 500kV.
• Uses existing procedures to investigate, evaluate and assist in producing technically correct and cost-effective designs and recommendations that solve ongoing problems.
• Develops technical expertise with the design of substation equipment, including power transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, AC and DC systems, microprocessor relays, and protection schemes.
• Provides engineering expertise and technical support during the planning and construction phases of large, complex substation design projects.
• Oversees contract engineers and coordinates engineering activities across multiple engineering disciplines and work groups.
• Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using well-defined engineering procedures, which may include routine and diagnostic testing of components and systems, and engineering studies.
• Takes initiative to continually expand and improve technical and business skills.
• Assists in developing innovative procedures, improved design recommendations, and new or better equipment purchase recommendations.
• May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role, necessitating after-hours work during storms and emergencies.
• All other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university for Engineer I.
• Minimum of two years related experience for Engineer II.
• Minimum of five years related experience and working knowledge of utility industry and regulations for Engineer III.
• Minimum of ten years related experience and working knowledge of utility industry and regulations for Principal Engineer.

Nice-to-haves
• Professional Engineer License or Engineer in Training Certificate.
