Job Title: Electronics Engineer
Location: Hobart, Tasmania

About the Role:

Our client is looking for an experienced Electronics Design Engineer to join its growing Research & Development team in Hobart. Working alongside highly skilled electronics, firmware, software, and mechanical engineers, you'll play a key role in designing and developing the company's next generation of intelligent electronic products—from initial concept through to production.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges across analogue and digital electronics, PCB design, embedded systems, wireless communications, power electronics, and sensor technologies while seeing their work deployed in real-world applications around the globe.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design analogue and digital electronic circuits and multilayer PCBs using Altium Designer
  • Participate in product concept development, requirements definition, and project scoping
  • Develop electronic products from concept through prototype, validation, and production
  • Evaluate, test, and troubleshoot prototype circuits and hardware
  • Perform modelling, simulation, and scripting using tools such as SPICE, LabVIEW, and Python
  • Develop manufacturing test equipment, tooling, and production test procedures
  • Lead product compliance activities including EMC and electrical safety testing
  • Investigate and resolve field-reported hardware issues and drive corrective actions
  • Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews with firmware, software, and mechanical engineering teams
  • Maintain and improve component libraries within Altium Designer
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across products and engineering processes
 
Qualifications:
Essential
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 3-5 years of professional electronics design experience
  • Strong understanding of analogue and digital circuit design
  • Proven experience taking electronic products from concept through to production
  • Advanced experience using Altium Designer for schematic capture, PCB layout, and library management
  • Experience with EMC testing and regulatory compliance
  • Excellent troubleshooting and laboratory testing skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team
  • High attention to detail and commitment to engineering quality
Desirable:
  • Experience with embedded microcontroller firmware
  • Exposure to Embedded Linux
  • Knowledge of wireless communication technologies
  • Experience with acoustic sensing, motor control, or off-grid power systems
  • Python, SPICE, or LabVIEW experience
