DescriptionGeneral Purpose
The Electrical Systems Studies Engineer is responsible for performing Electric Power System modeling and analysis as well as other related activities under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer in a manner that provides the Client with a quality deliverable that is on time and within budget.
Essential Responsibilities
• Prepares computer-based models and performs power system studies on utility and industrial/commercial electrical power generation, transmission, and distribution systems
• Creates and develops studies and reports including but not limited to short circuit, load flow, arc flash, dynamic, transient, harmonic, compliance, ampacity, grounding, as well as other related studies and calculations
• Performs protection and coordination studies and develops protective relay settings
• Secondary responsibilities may include checking and/or performing detailed design of all aspects of electrical power systems to include one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control and relaying schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA, conduit, and cable sizing/routing, grounding design, writing of equipment specifications, project and construction cost estimates, and project scheduling
• Prepares a variety of documents and reports associated with projects including proposals cost estimates, and budget reports
• Assists with Client contacts and communication pertaining to specific assignments and meetings
• May occasionally assist with performing equipment, control system, communications, troubleshooting, and relay field testing and start-up and commissioning services
• Maintains a strong understanding and applications of applicable Codes and Standards
• Maintains strong and responsive Company-Client relationships
• Maintains high ethical and professional standards
• Expected to work additional time beyond 40 hours/week as required to complete projects, proposals and/or administrative functions
• Attends conferences, training workshops, seminars, regular undergraduate, and graduate classes as appropriate for advancement and as required to maintain quality of work.
• Attends safety training and follow safety rules and guidelines

Qualifications & Experience
• Experience: 3+ years of engineering or relevant field experience.
• Education: Bachelors in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution, electric power option preferred
• Licensure: EIT or PE preferred.
• Proficiency power system modelling software such as Aspen, PSS/E, ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, DigSilent PowerFactory, EMTP-RV, PSCAD, CYMCAP, WinIGS, C-DEGS.
• Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and other computer software
• Must be able to legally work in the United States
Working Conditions
Work Environment:
Work is performed in an office setting and some field work is also required
Travel:
Minimal travel may be required (approximately 0-10%)
Physical Activities:
Must be able to lift 50lbs.
Managerial Responsibility:
Employee is responsible for managing their own work schedule with input from supervisor and completing assigned tasks. Employee is responsible for coordinating with others to complete work.

Entry Level
About the Position
As an entry level Electrical Engineer in the System Studies group, you will be responsible for performing engineering analysis under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer. You will be a part of an integrated design team and are responsible for coordinating with team members to meet project schedules and deliverables on time and within the defined budget.
Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000 / year
The salary range above is based upon the Denver, Colorado labor market.
Essential Responsibilities
• Basic understanding of key power systems concepts: per unit, 3-phase analysis, etc. Typically requires at least one power system class be taken while at university.
• Willingness and desire to learn how to prepare computer-based models and perform power system studies on utility scale power plants including short circuit, load flow, relay coordination, arc flash, collection system grounding, harmonic analysis, and other related studies
• Willingness and desire to learn how to review detailed design aspects of Electrical Power Systems (ie. PV site, BESS site, industrial distribution and transmission line designs) and convert into analytical models using various electrical modeling software platforms.
• Ability to complete assigned tasks with some oversight and guidance
• Ability to manage timely execution of assigned tasks and proactively communicate with supervisor if workload exceeds capacity or capability
• Ability to communicate and coordinate with design teams to correctly model evolving design through a project design cycle. This includes all physical aspects of a project design that may affect the electrical adequacy and reliability of the design
• Ability to review equipment data sheets, manuals, and testing reports for design and approvals
• Prepares a variety of documents and reports associated with projects including cost estimates, budget reports, and studies
• Provides field assistance, troubleshooting, and observation reports
• Maintains professional understanding of applicable Codes and Standards, and typical design and construction practices that may impact design study results

Must Have

• Knowledge and familiarity with medium and low voltage distribution, switchgear, motor control centers, and industrial instrumentation and controls
• Experience with AutoCAD
• Possesses effective written and oral communications skills
• Good interpersonal and people skills
• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
Nice to Have
• Experience with some power system software such as EasyPower, ETAP, Power Factory or SKM, and CYMCAP is a plus
• Proficiency in electrical modeling software packages is a plus
