Electrical Safety Engineer - Consumer Products
We seek a technically skilled Product Safety Engineer to lead safety and compliance efforts for new lines of decorative lighting products. This role involves hands-on testing, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure all products meet safety standards.
The successful candidate will ensure compliance with domestic and international safety standards such as UL, CE, and IEC, working closely with product development, QA, sourcing, and factories. International travel to Asia is also involved, with potential future opportunities for team leadership as the safety function expands.
• Key Responsibilities
• Lead product safety testing and compliance for lighting products, ensuring adherence to relevant safety standards.
• Conduct risk assessments, including FMEA and Fault Tree Analysis, to identify potential hazards.
• Oversee safety feature validation and factory testing to ensure product safety.
• Maintain detailed compliance documentation, including user manuals, labels, and safety warnings.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Act as safety liaison among product development, compliance, sourcing, and legal teams to facilitate communication and cooperation.
• Collaborate with Asian manufacturers and QA teams on testing and audits to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Train factory staff and QA auditors on safety regulations to enhance knowledge and understanding.
Program Development
• Develop and implement internal safety programs for new products and markets, incorporating best practices and industry standards.
• Improve safety processes, tools, and documentation to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
• Integrate safety requirements into product development to ensure that safety considerations are factored into design and production.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in product safety compliance for electrical consumer products, preferably in the lighting industry.
• Knowledge of UL, CE, and IEC standards and testing procedures.
• Experience with risk assessments, including FMEA and Fault Tree Analysis.
• Proficiency in managing certification documentation and familiarity with EMC, wireless, and environmental compliance.
• Familiarity with reliability engineering and statistical analysis is an asset.
• Experience working with overseas manufacturers, especially in Asia, and knowledge of testing labs or certification bodies are beneficial.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential for success in this role.
• Ability to travel up to 40% internationally may be required.
