Electrical Engineering Technology Faculty

Faculty members are responsible for delivering high-quality instruction at the college level, promoting student learning, engagement, and academic success through effective and innovative teaching practices. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining course materials, assessing student performance, assessing multiple levels of learning outcomes and fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Faculty are expected to remain current in their field of expertise, contribute to curriculum development, and participate in departmental, divisional, or institutional committees as needed. In addition, faculty play an active role in advancing the academic mission of BridgeValley Community and Technical College through teaching excellence, student support, and ongoing engagement in institutional initiatives.

Instruction and Student Support

• Provide instruction for assigned courses, including evaluation of student work, consultation and additional instruction with students outside of class as necessary, and other efforts related to the teaching of assigned classes.
• Teach curriculum material and develop daily lesson plans to ensure expected course outcomes are met.
• Utilize different methods and mediums in delivering course material.
• Fulfill assigned teaching load in accordance with institutional policy (C-07 OP Faculty Teaching and Office Hour Load).
• Maintain regular on-campus office hours to provide advising, mentoring, and support that promote student retention and success.
• Ensure timely publication of course syllabi, submission of grades, and completion of required course documentation by institutional deadlines.
• Participate in recruiting efforts for division programs including but not limited to such things as: giving tours to prospective students or tour groups, visiting high school and career technical centers, as well as supporting institution and division outreach events.
• Maintain and develop program laboratories.
• Provide academic advisor services to several students each semester to aid the student in achieving their educational goals.
• Participate in professional development activities and apply insights to improve teaching effectiveness and support the College's strategic plan.
• Complete course and program-level assessment activities to support continuous improvement and compliance with academic standards.
• Support program, department and institutional operational objects, especially the implementation and maintenance of the program ABET assessment process.
• Support program delivery at both the South Charleston and Montgomery sites.
• Support online/remote course delivery.
• Aid in student retention by giving timely feedback to students and the college concerning Academics, Behavior, Attendance, etc. and mentoring the student as required to aid in the development and growth of the student as they progress through the program.
• Take an active role in job placement of students as they approach graduation.

Institutional Engagement

• Maintain a minimum on-campus presence of 25 hours per week, including instructional and office hours, with remaining weekly hours devoted to required meetings, course development, research, workforce development, student engagement, and planning/evaluation activities
• Attend and actively participate in departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings and events, including student registration, orientation, and commencement ceremonies as scheduled.
• Contribute to departmental and institutional initiatives that advance the mission, vision, and goals of the College.
• Assume institutional responsibilities, including active participation in department, division and institutional needs which may include, but not be limited to, class schedule preparation, budget development, club advising, committee participation, accreditation, articulation, and faculty governance.

Compliance and Reporting

• Prepare and submit required documentation and reports to support accreditation and compliance with regulatory bodies, including the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), the U.S. Department of Education, and the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (HEPC).
• Ensure that instructional practices, documentation, and reporting align with institutional and academic standards.

Program Development and Sustainability

• Support the quality, stability, and sustainability of assigned academic programs through active participation in curriculum development, student recruitment, program review and grant attainment.
• Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to strengthen program viability and align offerings with workforce and community needs.
• Build and maintain contacts and relationships throughout industry and with high school technical program instructors.
• Keep abreast of the latest trends and needs of industry.
• Maintain expertise in subject area and recommend improvements, with possible training on specific software and equipment as required by the program.
• Continue technical education to achieve a relevant master’s degree, if needed\Participate in Industrial Advisory Committee activities.

Other

• Perform other related duties as assigned to support the mission, vision, and goals of the College.

Required Education

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or similar relevant degree

• Master's degree Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or similar relevant degree
• 18 hours of graduate credit in Engineering or Engineering Technology
• Course work to be eligible to teach math or science to bachelor’s level undergraduates in accordance with HLC guideline
• 3 years relevant in field experience
• Additional experience in curriculum development, student advising, or discipline-related work
• Experience with industrial electronics, electromechanical systems, automation or robotics, communications, digital design and microprocessor applications
• Background experience in related areas such as project management, programming, networking, drafting, and similar topics
• Prior face-to-face teaching experience
• Prior online teaching experience

• Comprehensive knowledge of the college-level electrical engineering technology discipline.
• Familiarity with current teaching methodologies, pedagogical theories, and best practices in engineering technology education.
• Understanding of curriculum development, assessment standards, and accreditation requirements in higher education.
• Proficiency with educational technology tools and learning management systems (e.g., Banner, Early Alert systems).
• Awareness of institutional and state policies related to academic standards and student support.
• Strong instructional skills, with the ability to present concepts clearly and effectively.
• Proficiency in leveraging educational technology and software to enhance teaching and learning.
• Effective classroom management and student engagement strategies to foster a positive learning environment.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, for interaction with students, colleagues, and administration.
• Skill in designing and implementing assessments that measure learning outcomes and support continuous improvement.
• Academic advising and mentoring skills to guide student success and persistence.
• Ability to create inclusive, supportive, and motivating learning environments for a diverse student population.
• Flexibility to adapt instructional strategies to different learning styles and course delivery formats (in-person, online, hybrid).
• Ability to analyze student performance data and use results to inform teaching strategies.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities to balance teaching, advising, and service responsibilities.
• Commitment to professional development, continuous improvement, and lifelong learning.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues on curriculum development, departmental initiatives, and institutional goals.
