Oil States is currently looking for qualified candidates for the position of Electrical Engineer in Houma, Louisiana.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the design, development, and documentation of electrical systems and controls in accordance with Oil States International (OSI) and customer requirements. This role includes selecting components, designing wiring and power distribution, and ensuring systems meet performance, safety, and reliability standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop electrical system designs, including power distribution, control systems, and interconnection wiring.
  • Specify and procure electrical components such as motors, VFDs, transformers, junction boxes, relays, and control panels.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals and technical documentation for compliance with project and industry standards.
  • Produce and review detailed electrical drawings, including schematics, single-line diagrams, and wiring diagrams.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, hydraulic, and control system engineers to ensure system integration and compatibility.
  • Design and oversee fabrication of electrical control consoles and panels.
  • Develop and implement testing procedures for verification and validation of electrical systems.
  • Support electrical designers and drafters during documentation development.
  • Participate in design reviews and hazard assessments to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEC, UL, NFPA 70E).
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in electrical designs for cost reduction, performance, or reliability.
  • Utilize engineering software tools such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar, as well as analytical software (MathCAD, MATLAB, or equivalent).
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and Bill of Materials (BOMs).

    OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provide technical support during equipment installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
    • Support aftermarket services and field issue resolution as required.
    • Contribute to maintaining engineering standards, templates, and lessons learned.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent.
    • Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical design or control systems engineering within industrial, oil & gas, or manufacturing environments.
    • Strong understanding of power systems, motor controls, PLCs, and instrumentation.
    • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (NEC, IEC, UL, NFPA 70E).
    • Proficiency with electrical design software (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN) and MS Office tools (Word, Excel, Access).
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple assignments, coordinate across disciplines, and make sound engineering decisions.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
    • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or ability to obtain one is a plus.

      PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

      • Prolonged sitting, computer use, and occasional field visits.
      • Moderate bending and lifting up to 10 lbs frequently and 20 lbs occasionally.
      • Ability to travel occasionally to fabrication shops, field sites, or customer locations.
