Job Summary
The Electrical Engineer – Commissioning will be responsible for planning, executing, and supervising electrical pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for HT/LT electrical systems. The role ensures that all electrical equipment and systems are tested, commissioned, and energized safely in accordance with project specifications, applicable codes and standards, approved procedures, and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for HT/LT electrical systems and equipment.
- Perform cold loop checking for all power and control cables.
- Conduct insulation resistance (IR) testing for power and control cables.
- Carry out High Voltage (HV) testing for HT cables.
- Inspect and verify all HT, LT, and control cable terminations.
- Test HT/LT switchboards and associated electrical equipment, including:
- Current Transformers (CT)
- Potential Transformers (PT)
- Core Balance Current Transformers (CBCT)
- Vacuum Circuit Breakers (VCB)
- Air Circuit Breakers (ACB)
- Protection Relays
- Busbars and Bus Ducts
- Earth Switches
- Isolators
- Verify switchboard schematics, logic, protection schemes, and interlocks for all incoming and outgoing feeders.
- Perform solo run testing of motors, including verification of direction of rotation (DOR).
- Conduct testing and functional verification of power and distribution transformers.
- Inspect and witness testing of AC/DC UPS systems and battery banks.
- Verify commissioning records, test reports, and ensure all documentation is uploaded to the Client Asset Management System (CAMS) or other designated documentation platforms.
- Verify protection relay settings and coordination for all feeders.
- Coordinate with construction, operations, and client representatives for safe energization activities.
- Execute energization of switchgear, PMCCs, PCCs, MCCs, transformers, outgoing feeders, MPDBs, MLDBs, DCDBs, and other electrical distribution systems.
- Identify commissioning issues, prepare punch lists, and ensure timely closure before system handover.
- Ensure all commissioning activities comply with project specifications, approved procedures, applicable IEC/IS standards, and HSE requirements.
- Participate in commissioning meetings and provide technical support during startup and handover.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (B.E./B.Tech Electrical).
Experience
- Minimum 5–10 years of experience in electrical pre-commissioning and commissioning of industrial, power, oil & gas, petrochemical, renewable energy, infrastructure, or process plant projects.
- Experience in commissioning HT/LT electrical systems up to 33 kV or above will be preferred.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of HT/LT electrical systems, switchgear, transformers, motors, UPS systems, and electrical protection systems.
- Hands-on experience with commissioning and testing equipment such as insulation resistance testers, HV test kits, primary/secondary injection kits, relay test kits, and transformer testing instruments.
- Familiarity with protection relays, electrical schematics, SLDs, wiring diagrams, and control logic.
- Knowledge of applicable standards such as IEC, IS, IEEE, NEC, and project-specific specifications.
- Proficiency in MS Office and commissioning documentation.
Key Competencies
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Good understanding of electrical safety and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently in a multidisciplinary project environment.
- Willingness to travel and work at project sites across India.
