This is an exciting opportunity to work on products throughout the entire product lifecycle, from concept and design through to testing, certification, manufacturing, and continuous improvement. Working closely with engineering, manufacturing, certification bodies, and customers to deliver safe, compliant, and commercially successful solutions.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Mechanical Design Engineer, you will support the research, design, development, testing, certification, and continuous improvement of CMI Electrical's product range.

  • Supporting the research, design, development, testing, certification, and continuous improvement of CMI Electrical's mining, flameproof, and industrial electrical product range. 
  • Designing and developing LV and HV electrical products, including cable couplers, plugs, receptacles, cable glands, and associated equipment. 
  • Performing engineering calculations, technical assessments, material selection, and design reviews to ensure product performance and compliance. 
  • Creating and maintaining 2D/3D CAD models, engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and technical documentation. 
  • Planning, coordinating, and supporting product testing, validation, and certification activities, including IECEx and ANZEx requirements. 
  • Collaborating with manufacturing teams to improve product manufacturability, resolve production issues, and support new product introduction. 
  • Investigating product and quality issues, conducting root cause analyses, and implementing corrective and continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Providing technical support to customers, sales, production, and field service teams throughout the product lifecycle. 
  • Ensuring products are technically compliant, safe, reliable, and commercially viable from concept through to production and ongoing support. 
  • Contributing to innovation, value engineering, and the development of solutions that support the mining and industrial sectors.
     


Skills And Experiences


About You:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred). 
  • 2–5 years' experience in electrical product design, mining electrical equipment, or industrial electrical manufacturing. 
  • Experience in the design and development of electrical products and equipment. 
  • Experience supporting product testing, certification, and manufacturing activities. 
  • Knowledge of HV/LV electrical equipment and industrial connectors, 
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software. 
  • Knowledge of IECEx/ANZEx certification requirements, IEC 60079, and relevant Australian Standards is highly regarded. 
  • Understanding of hazardous area equipment and AS/NZS 1299 requirements is desirable. 
  • Experience with mining cable couplers, cable glands, flameproof equipment, or similar mining products is advantageous. 
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and teamwork skills. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and customer-facing teams.
