The 2nd Electrical Engineer will work under the supervision of the Chief Electrical Engineer and will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems across the engine room, hotel, accommodation, safety, navigation, communication, and entertainment areas. The role will also support planned maintenance, emergency response, spare parts management, and the training of junior electrical staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and troubleshoot high, medium, and low voltage electrical systems.
- Support electrical power generation, distribution, lighting, automation, and control systems.
- Carry out maintenance on safety, communication, navigation, hotel, galley, laundry, and auxiliary equipment as required.
- Support Engine Control Room duties during manoeuvring and confined waters operations.
- Complete planned maintenance tasks and ensure records are accurately maintained.
- Assist with stock control and spare parts planning for electrical equipment.
- Support emergency troubleshooting and cross-departmental repairs.
- Mentor and guide junior electrical staff.
- Ensure compliance with HESS, SOLAS, STCW, and onboard safety procedures.
Requirements
- Previous experience in marine, cruise, yacht, or naval electrical systems.
- Strong knowledge of electrical power plants, propulsion systems, automation, safety systems, communication systems, and navigational equipment.
- Experience working with high, medium, and low voltage systems.
- STCW High Voltage certification.
- STCW III/6 Electro-Technical Officer CoC.
- Bachelorβs or masterβs degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Experience with hotel facility systems such as elevators, galley, laundry, or entertainment systems would be advantageous.
- Ability to work internationally and remain onboard for extended periods.
